GREATER BOSTON BUSINESS COUNCIL (GBBC)
EXPANDS PRESENCE ON NORTH SHORE

Provides grants to Beverly-based North Shore Music Theatre and Marblehead’s Jewish Community Center of the North Shore; names two North Shore residents to Board of Directors; continues successful North Shore-based networking series

BOSTON [May 24, 2006] —The Greater Boston Business Council (GBBC), one of the state’s largest chambers of commerce, expands its presence on the North Shore with several recent initiatives.

On June 7, the GBBC will provide a $2,500 grant to the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore (JCCNS) in Marblehead , to help fund its summer camp program. The GBBC recognized the JCCNS because of the important role that the organization has played in the lives of many GBBC members.

On June 15, the GBBC will sponsor an evening at the Beverly-based North Shore Music Theatre’s Out at the North Shore presentation of “Ain’t Misbehavin’” including dinner at the Theatre’s Overtures Restaurant, tickets to the show, and invitation to a post-show reception. Prior to the show, GBBC Chairman Tony Daniels will present NSMT Executive Producer Jon Kimbell with a $5,000 grant to support the Out at the North Shore series, which is offered on the third Thursday performance of each show.

“Both the Jewish Community Center and the North Shore Music Theatre provide valuable services to the community at large,” says Daniels. “In turn, we are pleased to support each of these organizations.”

In other North Shore news, the GBBC Board of Directors expands with the recent addition of two new members, Frank Addinizio of Melrose and Jessica Kowalski of Salem , MA .

Kowalski, who is straight, majors in history at Simmons College where she has just completed her freshman year. She is the youngest member of the GBBC Board of Directors. “I am very excited to be helping an organization that not only helps the Boston gay and lesbian community, but the greater Boston community as a whole,” she says.

Addinizio is a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. in Danvers . He serves as a member of the Salem, MA rotary and provides volunteer services to Mystic Valley Elder Services and to the Salem Council on Aging. In 1993, Addinizio received a Merit Award for outstanding performance from the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his board duties, Addinizio also coordinates the GBBC’s monthly North Shore Breakfast Group, a networking opportunity for the region’s gay and lesbian business professionals. The Breakfast Groups’s next meeting is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 8 at the Sheraton Ferncroft, 50 Ferncroft Road in Danvers. GREATER BOSTON BUSINESS COUNCIL (GBBC)

ANNOUNCES ‘CONNECTIONS’ SERIES

New events promise structured networking for area’s gay and lesbian professionals

BOSTON [April 12, 2006] —The GBBC, Boston’s gay and lesbian chamber of commerce, announces Connections—a new networking program designed to better facilitate networking opportunities for Boston’s gay and lesbian business professionals.

Connections will differ from traditional GBBC networking events, explains coordinator Caroline Gaffney.

“GBBC networking events have typically been informal social gatherings, where it was up to each member to proactively develop business contacts,” says Gaffney. “For some, the casual environment made successful networking difficult. We wanted to redesign our networking events to make sure that the business goals of our members are always the first priority.”

The GBBC’s first Connections event will take place on Wednesday, April 26, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, One Avenue de Lafayette in Boston from 6 – 8 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 for GBBC members and $20 for non-members. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. To RSVP for the April 26 Connections event, please email events@gbbc.org.

The event will begin with a half-hour of casual networking, followed by one hour of structured, accelerated networking in which attendees will be seated at tables of ten or twelve members. Each will take a turn sharing basic information about their business, the services that they provide, and what they hope to accomplish. Tablemates will be encouraged to provide leads, share information, or exchange professional services. It is hoped that members will continue to act as ambassadors for their colleagues beyond the meeting setting.

Gaffney feels that the Connections program is a great next step for the GBBC. “As a community—both as consumers and business people—we’re now pretty much integrated into the larger Greater Boston business population, in part thanks to the hard work of the GBBC and its membership. But many members want to find new ways to share business opportunities within the community.”

A financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial, Gaffney has been a GBBC member for three years and was recently appointed to the group’s Board of Directors.

“For me and many of us who have been involved, GBBC membership has had a significant impact on our business growth,” she says. “Our hope is that the Connections series will bring all participants opportunities for business growth, greater exposure to the community, and chances to refer business to those they are committed to supporting; in summary—a chance to give business, and grow business.”

The GBBC plans to schedule Connections events throughout the year. The group will continue to hold its signature social events, including the summer boat cruise and a December holiday party.
