Hiking Information
The club’s backpacking trips are group hikes in which each hiker carries a backpack that contains his/her equipment for overnight camping. On each trip, the group of backpackers will spend at least one night at a primitive backcountry campsite using the go-light, leave-no-trace, style of camping.
Most of our backpacking trips are weekend trips to a trail in the mountainous national forests of Arkansas or Oklahoma. For these trips, we typically leave Dallas after work on Friday and drive to a car camping site in the trailhead area. On Saturday morning, we start the trail hike and reach our backcountry campsite in the afternoon. On the easier trips, the hikes are 4-6 miles per day. On Sunday morning, we continue the hike to our exit point and begin the drive home in time for a group lunch stop in a town nearby. Backpacking trips of longer duration are also offered, usually to national parks near and far.
All of our club’s backpacking trips require advance reservations, and are limited to no more than 12 hikers per trip.
